At FYC the safety and wellbeing of our young members, staff and volunteers is integral to the running of our organisation. Our members are supported in a number of ways:

All our staff and volunteers who come into contact with our members are checked by the UK Government’s Disclosure and Barring Service and adhere to our Safeguarding Policy and procedures. These DBS checks are reviewed every three years.

The Designated Safeguarding Officer is Liz Chapman, who can be contacted at: info@fyc.org.uk. The Deputy DSO is Melanie Hancox: fycuniform@fyc.org.uk. Liz and Melanie have both been trained in child protection by the NSPCC, as have FYC Trustees. We have a Trustee who regularly reviews our safeguarding procedures and ensures that all staff and volunteers understand their responsibilities in keeping our members safe.

We have three Choir Liaisons (one for each choir) who are the first point of contact for all our singers’ pastoral needs during their time at FYC. There is also a team of Licensed Chaperones, who have been trained in child protection by Surrey County Council. Our chaperones look after our singers when at concert venues, during rehearsals and performances.

There is always a trained First Aider present at rehearsals and concerts.
