Farnham Youth Choir and its supporting choirs have an incredible range of talent supporting their development, led by Joanna Tomlinson.

In addition to her role as Artistic Director of Farnham Youth Choir, Joanna is Director of the Whitehall Choir, and Constanza Chorus in London, is Associate Director of East London Chorus and is on the tutor panel for the Association of British Choral Directors.  Joanna has also worked with BBC Symphony Chorus, London Symphony Chorus, National Youth Choir of Great Britain, National Youth Choir of Wales, Joyful Company of Singers, Royal College of Music Chorus and Manchester Chamber Choir.

In demand as a workshop leader, recent workshops include sessions for ABCD, UK Choir Festival, London Choral Conducting Masterclasses, and the Gabrieli Consort “Roar” and Philharmonia Orchestra education schemes.

Joanna trained first as a singer at the Royal College of Music before turning to conducting and continues to work as a soloist and with choirs including BBC Singers, Philharmonia Voices, Britten Sinfonia Voices, Gabrieli Consort, London Voices and Sonoro. 





Matthew Rickard has been accompanist to Farnham Youth Choir since September 2016. He studied at the University of Surrey and the Royal Academy of Music, where he specialised in piano accompaniment. Matthew has a busy freelance career as accompanist, chamber musician and piano teacher. He has recorded several CDs for the EM Records and Toccata Classic labels, some of which have been broadcast on BBC Radio & TV. In addition to FYC, Matthew is also accompanist to Horsley Choral Society, and recently gave two concerts with them in Madrid on a joint tour with Oxshott Choral Society.



Assistant MusicAl Director & CONDUCTOR OF FYC JUNIOR CHOIR

Patrick Barrett joined the FYC music team in September 2015 and already the Boys’ Choir has expanded under his leadership. He was educated in Ireland, reading music education at Trinity College, Dublin and the National Conservatory of Ireland. His post-graduate training was at Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary and the Royal Welsh College of Music where he completed an MMus in choral conducting. Currently, he is a musicianship tutor with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and assistant conductor with the National Children’s Choir. He is also working with Brockham Choral Society and across London in the Ark Schools in the delivery of their choral music programme.  Patrick also loves a game of hockey at the weekend!

Susan holmes

Susan completed a Master’s degree in Music, graduating with a specialisation in Piano Accompaniment, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with prize-winning accompanist Scott Mitchell. She was the recipient of the Piano Accompaniment Prize.

A particular highlight of her career so far was leading the band for a production of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years which was taken to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2010. Susan was the Assistant Music Director for the critically acclaimed Opera Up Close 2013-14 production of Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Susan has performed in such prestigious venues as the Royal Albert Hall, The Tower of London and Wigmore Hall.

Susan is currently the Principal Accompanist at Downe House School, Berkshire. She is an accompanist and piano teacher for Berkshire Maestros, and choir accompanist for Newbury Chamber Choir. Susan continues her studies under international renowned accompanist Simon Lepper.




Lucy Joy Morris grew up in Berkshire and went on to study music at Queens’ College, Cambridge where she won the Beaument Prize for Outstanding Musical Performance. There, she conducted two university orchestras, was the Musical Director of shows with the University Opera Society, and sang with the world-renowned Trinity College Choir. 

Lucy now conducts the Reading A440 Choir and is a passionate music educator, conducting the Taplow Children’s and Boys’ Choirs and the Kingston Youth and Training Orchestras. She is also Director of Music at Dartford Parish Church where she directs the choir of professional choral scholars. She was recently appointed as conductor of the National Boys’ Choir of Great Britain and is a sectional coach for the National Youth Choir of Scotland.


Musicianship Lead
and Assistant Conductor

Adam Hope has a growing reputation as a choral conductor, organist and teacher. He is Head of Choral Music at St John’s Beaumont in Old Windsor, where he directs several choirs including the Chapel Choir of 25 trebles, and teaches organ and musicianship. Adam is also an Assistant Conductor for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, organist at Dartford Parish Church, and conductor of the Kingston-based Canbury Singers. Adam’s teaching experience is vast, ranging from primary teaching to university lecturing. He teaches musicianship using the Kodàly method, and was awarded the Cecilia Vajda Memorial Scholarship by the British Kodàly Academy in 2018 in recognition of his work as an educator. 

 Born in Manchester, Adam studied at Kingston University where he received a first class Bachelor of Music degree with honours and received the Music Prize for academic excellence. He went on to complete a Masters Degree in 2014. In addition to his work with FYC, Adam teaches singing and conducts two choirs at the Junior department of the Royal Academy of Music on Saturdays.”
