About JOINING OUr Junior choir
If you would like to join our Junior Choir or to attend an open rehearsal, please register your interest by filling in the form at the bottom of this page. This page should answer most of your questions - if not, please contact Clare Wain who is in charge of recruitment at joinachoir@fyc.org.uk.
For the Junior Choir (children in school years 5-7) entrance is by a simple audition in September, January or June. If your child would like to attend a FREE open rehearsal, please register your interest by filling in the form below or by emailing joinachoir@fyc.org.uk.
Rehearsals are every Wednesday at The United Reformed Church in Farnham, between 5.15pm and 6.45pm. Our Training Choir rehearse at a similar time, currently at the Farnham Maltings, and our Senior Choir are also at the United Reform Church. Car parking is available opposite the venue in South Street car park.
The Junior Choir typically perform about 3-4 times per year, both in Farnham and further afield in the South East of England.
Subscriptions for the Junior Choir are £130 per term.
FYC has a Bursary Fund to assist with the fees for families with low incomes or who are on benefits. Please find more information and an application form here.
Singers only wear a uniform for concerts, not rehearsals. Parents/carers should provide smart, black trousers, black socks and black shoes. Parents will have to purchase a green Junior Choir t-shirt.
About open rehearsals and Auditions
You will attend an Open Rehearsal, which gives you and your child a chance to see what being in FYC is all about. There will normally be the opportunity to chat to other parents during the rehearsal. At the end (or at a later date), the conductor will listen to your child sing some simple scales and decide whether they can be offered a place.
We aim to make the audition process friendly and helpful, and hopefully an enjoyable experience! We want to find out about your current ability but are also looking for potential and readiness to learn.
What happens if I’m accepted?
Following your successful audition, you can begin rehearsals on Wednesdays at The United Reformed Church, South Street, Farnham, GU9 7QU from 5.15pm – 6.45pm (with arrival from 5pm).
