Farnham Youth Choir’s charitable objects are to promote, improve and develop the musical education of young people in a wide catchment area centred on Farnham, through choral training and concert performances. Until 2021, FYC has always aimed informally to assist singers’ families who struggle to pay membership subscriptions. The pandemic, and the hardships it has brought, has taught us that we need to formalise this process and thus the FYC Bursary Scheme was born.

The FYC Bursary Fund will remove the affordability barrier, both for children who would like to join an award-winning choir like FYC, and for children who already sing with us but whose families face financial difficulty going forward.

For 2022, the scheme is funded through the Community Foundation for Surrey and by the D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust. The scheme’s future has been secured by generous support from the Lake House Charitable Foundation and many additional donors. We are very grateful for their support.

The Scheme pays up to 100% of the termly subscription, depending on household income. If you fulfil one of the following criteria, we would consider awarding 100% reduction:

  • Your household income is below £15,000

  • Those living in a household claiming Universal Credit

  • Members under 18 who are eligible for Free School Meals

  • Members who are full-time carers for a close family member

  • Members who have one or more parents in receipt of PIP or ESA

  • Care-experienced members (for example, someone who has at some point lived with foster carers, or been looked after by a local authority)

  • Members who are currently seeking asylum in the UK

Applications for help with other costs of membership will also be considered very sympathetically.  Bursaries are awarded at the discretion of FYC’s Bursary Panel and are always subject to funds being available. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence and applicant’s names will be known only to the Bursary Scheme Administrator. To apply for a Bursary please complete the information below. Your data will be managed in line with data protection regulations and our Privacy Policy can be found here. If you would prefer to speak to someone in confidence, please email Bursary@fyc.org.uk with your name and phone number and someone will call you back.
