Winchester 2010

Some thirty five members of the youth choir were available during August for a concert in Winchester Cathedral.

The invitation to take part had come from Jeffrey Wynn Davies, director of the Cranleigh Choral Week, and would involve FYC joining the 200 adult members of the course plus the award-winning Canzonetta Chamber Choir from Manchester in a performance of Bob Chilcott's new choral work The Salisbury Vespers.

FYC rose to the challenge of the difficult Cathedral acoustic and the vast accompanying orchestra. Writing after the event, Jeffrey Wynn Davies expressed his "heartfelt thanks for FYC’s superb contribution", adding that many plaudits had been received from audience and performers alike for the young people’s mature artistic singing.

In particular he paid tribute not only to the meticulous preparation of the choir by their director but also to the youth choir's "youthful poise and professionalism" which, he said, was "mighty impressive".

Other works in the concert included Bertstein's Chichester Psalms and John Rutter's Winchester Te Deum.
