Fine start for 2008/9 choir
The 2008/9 vintage of FYC shared their first concert of the season with Oakfield School, Woking. Keith Mansfield, the school's choral director and long-time admirer of FYC, organised the concert which included the school's Junior and Senior Choirs.
FYC performed 18 songs from its repertoire ranging from 16th Century Palestrina to 20th century John Rutter and the Oakfield School choirs thrilled the audience with their own selection of songs in each half. The concert was supported by an enthusiastic full-house of parents and friends from the West Byfleet community.
David Victor-Smith had taken a workshop with the Oakfield Senior Choir during the previous week to prepare them to join with FYC for three final numbers, the haunting Scottish folk song 'Ae fond kiss' the popular 'Goin' up a-Yonder' by Hawkins, and finally the lovely spiritual Steal Away.
The school's youngest singers all received gifts of fluffy 'bugs' from the youth choir with the older singers receiving special FYC pencils as a 'thank you' from youth choir members for such a lovely first concert.
Farnham Youth Choir performs again on Sunday, 7th December at 'Christmas Words and Music'.
