Formed in 1984 by David and Gillian Victor-Smith, Farnham Youth Choir currently comprises about 50 young people aged around 10-18. It provides them with the opportunity to sing a broad-based repertoire of both sacred and secular pieces to professional standards, thus extending the children's musicianship.

FYC performs regularly in London, travels abroad on concert tours and participates with great success in choral competitions such as Sainsbury's Choir of the Year and the National Festival of Music for Youth. Concerts are held locally in West Surrey, sometimes jointly with other groups.

Rehearsals take place in Farnham once a week during term-time and periodically for a full day at weekends. Entry to the Choir is by audition normally held in June for joining in the following September.

FYC have released a number of recordings on CD and cassette which cover a wide variety of music. See Shop for more details.

The Summer of 2003 saw the culmination of over two years’ planning and preparation for the longest, most distant overseas tour ever undertaken by Farnham Youth Choir.

They flew to Singapore, then on to Australia, visiting choirs in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Along the way they were warmly welcomed into many Australian homes. This summer we have been able to repay some of that hospitality by inviting first the Young Voices of Melbourne and then the Australian Girls’ Choir to Farnham.

Since then they’ve enjoyed success in international festivals at Neerpelt, Belgium and Montreux, Switzerland as well as radio broadcasts and a television appearance, singing in the finals of The Choir of the Year Competition.

Plans are now well under way for their entry in the Fourth Choir Olympics, in Xiamen, China, July 2006
